The importance of cleansing in skincare

Cleansing is the most important preparatory step for subsequent care. It is important to cleanse your face, neck, and décolleté. The cleanser penetrates the excretory ducts of the sebaceous and sweat glands, dissolves their contents and make-up residues, and also facilitates their removal from the skin surface. That is, at this stage, we remove dust, dirt, excess sebum and prepare the skin for hydration.

Just washing your face with water in the morning and in the evening (even if you do not use decorative cosmetics) is wrong. Water does not wash away dead cells, sebum, and other tough dirt. As a result, the stratum corneum becomes coarse, clogging of pores occurs, inflammatory elements appear – all this does not allow the nutrients of cosmetics (creams, serums) to penetrate into the deep layers of the skin. That is, there will be no effect from the use of night or day creams.

Facial cleansing rules

  1. Choose the right product for cleansing your face. It should be appropriate for your skin type. So the action will be more effective and the effect will last longer.
  2. Cleanse your skin every morning and evening. The main derm cleansing should be in the evening. Wash off everything that the skin “collects” for the day. It is also advisable to wash your face with warm water.
  3. Always remove makeup to cleanse your face. It is important to remove it with a special tool, first from the eyes, then from the face. Remember, then you need to wash your face with water or a cleanser. In emergencies, make-up can be removed by using wipes.
  4. Tone your skin. The toner removes the remnants of the products you used to cleanse the skin, cleanses the pores of dirt, and soothes the derm. You can also tone your skin with an ice cube – it tightens pores and relieves puffiness.
  5. Do not forget about the neck and neckline. The skin of the neck and décolleté requires regular and gentle care, as does the derm of the face. It is important to cleanse the neckline and neck from the remnants of creams, sweat, and perfume. Remember, you need to clean it with mild means.

Toning

Essentially, a tonic is a clear or translucent liquid in which active ingredients are dissolved. What is its superpower?

  1. Completes the cleansing process, pulling out the remnants of impurities and care cosmetics from the pores.
  2. Restores the pH balance that cleansers almost certainly have disturbed.
  3. Prepares the skin for the next stage of care (toner is an ideal “conductor” between skin and cosmetics).
  4. The main types of toners: cleansing, moisturizing and mattifying.

The main rules for care:

  • For daily cleansing, choose foams and gels, and for deeper cleansing – scrubs and gommages (twice a week).
  • Before using your daily face cream, wash your face with a cleansing gel and lotion every morning.
  • Every care must have two prerequisites: it must be constant and always start with cleansing.

If your skin tends to be oily, you should also cleanse it in the morning with a cleanser. If it is dry or normal, it is enough to wipe the face with a tonic and then apply a day cream. But in any case, cleansing the skin every morning is also necessary, even if the skin is visually clean and you feel comfortable. The fact is that cells are actively working at night, removing toxins to the surface, from which they must be rid of upon awakening.

Signs of skin contamination

Healthy, clean skin should look smooth, hydrated, and radiant (not to be confused with “shiny with oil”). If yours is still far from this ideal, look for the main signs of contamination:

  1. A scattering of small pimples.
  2. Dull complexion.
  3. Black spots.
  4. Enlarged pores.
  5. Rough terrain.

How do I choose the right cleanser?

The best way to make a choice is to focus on the type of skin and the ingredients that are good for it.

  1. Foams and gels for washing, containing matting, sebum-regulating, and bactericidal components, are suitable for oily and problem skin. They can help treat blackheads, acne, oily sheen, and enlarged pores. Salicylic acid and zinc are a must-have in the composition!
  2. For dry skin, products with oils and moisturizers are suitable. They will help to saturate it with moisture and restore the hydrolipidic barrier.
  3. Normal skin needs cleansing as much as other types. Both gels and foams are suitable for it, especially if they contain natural plant extracts (grape, apricot, etc.).
  4. Owners of sensitive skin can try washing without water – using cleansers with the most delicate formulas and soothing ingredients in the composition.
  5. Combination skin needs special care: in the T-zone, it suffers from excessive oiliness, and in the U-zone – from a lack of lipids. Micellar water is suitable for removing make-up, and a gel with plant extracts for washing.
